Rincon Baptist Church History
Rincon Baptist Church has served the southeast side of Tucson for over 50 years. Brother Leland Hall gathered a few faithful believers in June of 1963 at Dietz Elementary School. The church property was obtained at the current location, and the first building was completed in 1968 under the leadership of Pastor "Doc" Wilson. God has blessed through the years. Many lives have been touched and transformed by the grace of God through the leadership of 11 pastors.
In 1997 Pastor Edward Vernon was called as interim pastor. After serving in that capacity for two years, the church called him as senior pastor. In 1999 his son, Gordon Vernon, was called to serve as associate pastor. It soon became evident that a new worship center was needed. In 2001 the church began the planning process. Ground breaking took place in 2008. Thanks to the dedication and hard work of many in the congregation, the new worship center was dedicated in October of 2010.
Pastor Edward Vernon retired as senior pastor in February of 2011 after serving the church for almost 15 years. In April of 2012 Pastor Gordon Vernon was called as senior pastor. In June of 2013 the church called Pastor David Eckert to be the associate pastor and minister of music.
